We’re collecting great content (with proper credits given) to help e-Bikers and cyclists have a better understanding of the laws and safety/etiquette of using our shared multi-use trails.
Although these tips apply to riding an e-Bike in Bike Lanes on the roads, this portal is focused on helping to prevent crashes and incidents on bike paths… for now.
Understanding Colorado’s Electric Bike Laws
Colorado classifies electric bikes into three neat categories:
- Class 1: Your pedal-assist friends that only help while you’re pedaling and stop boosting at 20 mph.
- Class 2: These come with a throttle and also cap assistance at 20 mph.
- Class 3: Pedal-assist that pushes a bit further, up to 28 mph, with a helmet requirement for riders under 21.
Remember, if you’re cruising around on a Class 3 e-bike and you’re not of drinking age yet, that helmet better be on!
